Snaps from August 2026, including a visit to the Museum for East Asian Art in Cologne, the annual fun fair in Sinzig, and a visit to the Neanderthal Museum in Mettmann.

Regarding the latter, the last time I visited the museum was when I was a school kid. Since then, the museum has been completely rebuilt and modernized, and it was a very interesting experience to see how the museum has changed over the years. I think, it’s really worth a visit, especially as now, not only the museum itself is considered of being part of a visit, but also the surrounding landscape, which includes the Neanderthal valley and the location where the first Neanderthal fossil was found. At that location, a high tower has been built, which allows to have a good overview of the valley and the surrounding landscape. The museum itself is very modern and interactive, and it provides a lot of information about the Neanderthals and their way of life. Overall, it was a very interesting experience, and I would definitely recommend a visit to the museum and the surrounding area.

Apart from that, we also enjoyed the August 12 2026 solar eclipse, which was visible at our location here in Cologne. We watched it at the physics campus and it was the last visible solar eclipse in Germany for a while, so it was a very special experience. We watched it with special glasses and it was really amazing to see the moon covering the sun. I tried to take some photos with my smartphone.
