Sexuality and gender diversity have always existed, but societies have responded to them in vastly different ways — with persecution, tolerance, or celebration. The articles under this tag examine the historical, cultural, and philosophical dimensions of LGBTQ+ existence, oppression, and advocacy across religious traditions, empires, and modern nation-states.

My focus is not only on tracing suffering and injustice — such as the persecution under Christian doctrine, Roman law, or the Nazi regime — but also on recovering overlooked narratives of resilience, compassion, and early rights movements. From Buddhist inclusivity to Magnus Hirschfeld’s pioneering activism, this tag aims to critically illuminate how LGBTQ+ lives have been shaped by, and in turn shaped, broader cultural and historical forces.
