Pottery and ceramics are among the oldest and most expressive forms of material culture — functional, artistic, and symbolic at once. Across regions and centuries, ceramic traditions have reflected local resources, aesthetic ideals, technological innovations, and cultural values. From the spiritual purity of Korean whiteware to the ritual vessels of the Kingdom of Kush and the earthy legacy of Cologne’s pottery workshops, each piece tells a story of craft and context.

In my articles, I explore both the regional variety and the historical continuity of ceramic art: from Jomon-era Japan to Roman glassware, from East Asian masterpieces to everyday medieval wares. I also take an interest in modern reinterpretations, such as kintsugi, that transform damage into beauty — revealing how ceramics not only preserve cultural memory, but also inspire philosophical reflection on fragility, resilience, and transformation.
