Languages and writing systems are among the most profound achievements of human civilization — tools not only of communication, but of cultural transmission, religious expression, and political organization. From the earliest cuneiform tablets of Mesopotamia and the hieroglyphs of Egypt to the elegant scripts of Sanskrit, Pali, Classical Chinese, and Japanese kana, each system reflects the intellectual structures and symbolic worlds of the societies that shaped them.

In my posts, I trace the origins, functions, and evolution of ancient scripts and languages, not as isolated inventions but as deeply intertwined with religious practices, state formation, and intercultural contact. Whether it is the spread of Buddhist doctrine through written sutras, the philosophical depth embedded in Indian and Chinese linguistic traditions, or the development of printing long before Gutenberg, I view language and writing as crucial keys to understanding the historical consciousness of a culture.
