Christian culture emerged from Judaism and developed into one of the most formative forces in European civilization. It shaped institutions, moral frameworks, art, and thought — often in tension with its own teachings. While rooted in ideals of compassion and redemption, Christianity also gave rise to systems of exclusion, dogma, and power.
Its history cannot be understood in isolation: it absorbed Greco-Roman philosophy, redefined itself through imperial structures, and later played a central role in colonialism, patriarchy, and religious persecution. I examine these developments critically — not to praise or condemn, but to trace how a marginal sect became a dominant cultural force. My focus lies on both the contradictions and continuities of Christian culture, and how its legacy still shapes the Western world today.
